The Phoenix Club, founded May 1st 1856, was a social club for wealthy and prominent Jews. The Club was located in Cincinnati at Central & Court. The Phoenix Club maintained their clubhouse at this location until 1894 when the club built a new one at the corner of 9th & Race (the building still stands and is considered a landmark structure). A little over a decade after moving into the new clubhouse, the Phoenix Club began thinking about selling the structure and in early 1911 did so. By the end of 1911 the Phoenix Club had moved out of the old clubhouse and into new quarters at the Hotel Havlin at the corner of Vine & Opera. In 1921, after about a decade at the Hotel Havlin, the Phoenix Club moved its clubrooms to a new location: the Hotel Sinton. The Phoenix Club maintained clubrooms at the Hotel Sinton until the mid 1940’s when the club appears to have dissolved.See photos and new articles.

More history,

Phoenix Clubisa registeredhistoric building in downtown Cincinnati, OH, was listed in the NationalRegister on March 3, 1980, and it is also recognized as a historic landmark by the Miami Historical Preservation Association.

The membership of thisclub was chiefly Jewish. The Phoenix Clublocated at 812 Race Street, was built in 1893 in the architectural style of the Italian Renaissance, featuring Tiffany Glass windows and purchased by the neighboring Cincinnati Club, located at 30 Garfield Place, in 1911.

It wasconstructed as a Jewish Businessman\'s organization designed by prominent Cincinnati architect Samuel Hannaford, the same architect who designed Cincinnati\'s Music Hall. It was built in order to accommodate Cincinnati\'s first professional Jewish men\'s club and was established as a \"German Organization of Jewish Men,\"with the by-laws provided that all proceedings, records and entertainments be in the German language.

A 1909 report of The Cincinnati Industrial Magazine states \"The Phoenix Club is the leading Jewish social organization of the city, but movement of wealthy families to the outlying districts made the maintenance of the clubhouse too great an expense. The property was sold for $185,000 and will be remodeled into a theater, with restaurant and roof garden.

The Cincinnati Club later sold the building in 1983. It later became a fine dining restaurant 1988-2008, and continues as a private banquet facility />On Jul-28-15 at 10:45:55 PDT, seller added the following information:

***** UPDATE ***** Please note the quantity change mentioned below!!! ........ I have added some additional photos and wanted to update the sale description:

My father recently passed away, these were in his possession. I knew/know nothing about them or how he came to have them. He was 62 when he passed (and Roman Catholic) so I know he did not get them himself from the club. I am 48 and have never seen them growing up and I have helped him movea couple times so I have seen most of his belongings. He never mentioned them to me or the story of how he came across them, all I can assume is that he acquired them in the last 10 years or so. After doing some research on the chips and learning more about them and their history, I have decided to keep a few for myself as keepsakes. For this reason there will be 60 chips (NOT 72) included in this sale.
