Offered here is a nice vintage Gibson mandolin.I believe it to be from 1922, though the serial number is tough to make out. I think it says 78215 which would put it in the 1922 time period. This is the popular A-4 model. It has the very popular \"Virzi\" tone producer installed. Virzi has affixed there label above the Gibson label inside (this one happens to be 10040). The Virzi tone producer is a thin, oval piece of wood which is suspended directly below the bridge. It provides a secondary vibrating surface which adds adifferentdimensionof sound. The low number on the Virzi (10040... i think they STARTED at 10001) would lead me to believe this is one of the first ever Mandolins to use it.
The instrument isstructurallysound. There is a 1 inch crack on the side, which appears to have been professionally repaired. There are no other cracks and the binding is tight all the way around. Appears to be in completely original shape. Includes a hard shell case (not sure if that is original). A very rare opportunity to own a vintage A4 with a Virzi tone producer.
