This is a nice cornet that has been sitting at the home of one of my brass quintet trumpet players and has not been played in several years. The other trumpet player has assumed the position when an Eb trumpet is needed so this one needs to find a home where it will be loved. If you are a member of a British Brass Band, this should be a horn for you. It appears it was made in London jsut before or after World war II. The Silver plate is pretty good. You can see wear on the back of the bow and on the second valve slide as well as a bit of scraping on the inside edge of the bell. I found a small ding or two but overall it is very straight. Valves are quick and smooth and all slides work as intended. Tuning by the mouthpiece bit and a Bach 5A mouthpiece is included.
A cornet will almost always have a warmer darker sound than a trumpet due to the conical bore- this one is no exception. It plays smoothly into the high range for which it was designed but with a sweet rich sound. Much less aggressive sounding than a trumpet.
