1940\'s Encased Postage Stamp Token of Coin Dealer \"Ernest Jonas, Chicago, ILL. Coins, Medals, A.N.A. 1743\", with a 4c Lincoln stamp on the reverse. Brass, 27 mm, xf condition. Encased Postage Stamps were first used as small change during the Civil War and into the 1870\'s when it faded away. Encased postage was revived in the late 1940\'s through the 1950\'s when it faded away again. Hundreds of different modern encased postage tokens were issued primarily coin and stamp dealers, yet to my knowledge the series has never been cataloged. It would be challenge to build a collection of Encased postage because they were made in small quantities, perhaps as few as 100 of some, to as many as 500 of others. Today they are difficult to find.
