1949 Great Britain Maundy Silver Set of 4 Coins

This set has an interesting provenance as described on the envelope kept by its previous owner:

In 1949 the Director of His Majesty\'s Royal Mint in London made a trip to the United States to study minting methods.

While in San Francisco he was shown every courtesy and entertained by Mr. Joseph Steel, Director of the San Francisco Mint.

On his return to London, he directed that the enclosed set of Maundy coins for 1949, be sent (to) Mr. Steel.

Mr. Steel, not being a numismatist, gave the set to Mr. Ezekiel A. Elias, an employee of the Mint.

July, 1974 Mr. Elias gave the set to his niece, Rahma (Levy) Thomas.

This set is accompanied by original inner envelope as well as stamped mailing envelope

to Mr. Joseph Steel mailed from the British Embassy, Washington D.C.

Small mintage of only 1,395 sets
