Year: 1952 Description:Awesomeexample of one of the largest 1950\'s era space ship rockets produced byMasudaya, Japan. Beautifully lithographed it typifies the vision of earlymid-20th century space travel. Best of all it comes complete with itsoriginal box!Made of all tinplate it\'s lithographed with bold swirled colors (blue,red, and yellow) and basic windows, hatchway, and rivets. Themanufacturer\'s trademark was also included. The ship is frictionpowered running on three wheels (one metal and two rubber rimmed).The three tail fins extend 2½\" beyond thetailsection which enable it to easily stand upright. Sparks would be seen through the two transparent red celluloid exhaustports (both original). However it does need a new flint to spark (whichI\'ll also include). The flint holder is still in place. It alsogenerates a mechanical grinding noise as it moves.

The box was printed with a simplified illustration of X-5taking off with white exhaust plume. The toy name appears on everycover panel. The manufacturer\'s mark was also included.Size: 12\" (30cm). Condition: Lustrous near mint condition and one ofthe best examples I\'ve seen. Complete, all original, and without anyrepairs. The friction motor works well. No dents, dings, or wear. Justthree tiny imperfections keep it from grading higher; 1) a minute chipon the upper half, red \"nose\" section about 2\" from the tip, 2) a tinyscuff on the left side, blue section at the interface between the upperand lower halves, and 3) an extremely faint scratch about 1/8\" longjust behind the scuff (No. 2 above). The fin tips and nose show nowear! The rubber around the two rear wheel rims is complete and alsowithout any wear. The edges of all three fins are perfect without anick or rub. And the all-important belly is completely free of any playscuffs or scratches. The box grades excellent with a near pristine illustration. Colors arestrong and show no soiling or aging. Whites are brilliant. The edges doshow some light sporadic chipping which can be seen, but not felt. Thecorners and corner edges do show some wear. Two of these have smallcreases as well. One is also missing a narrow sliver of paper (see lastbox photo). Apparently one corner was split and repaired. The boxbottom is darkened slightly from age, has a couple of smallcreases and one tiny stain. One of the short bottom panels was torn andrepaired.
