1955, Alps, Batt. Op. \"Lincoln Futura\" in Original Box
Price: US $2839.99
New TemplateToy Name:Alps, Battery Operated\"Lincoln Futura\" in Original Box
Year: 1955 Description:In 1955 the Ford Co., Lincoln-Mercurydivision built a concept vehicle that was 19 feet long, 7 feet wide andonly 53 inches tall, yet accommodated only 2 people. It had a 330hpengine. The windows were sealed shut. Fresh air was vented to theinterior from behind the seats. It also cost $250,000! It was theLincoln Futura. The Alps Shoji, Co., Tokyo, Japan built an extremely accurate tinplatetoy model of the car, battery powered, and with operableheadlights . Here is one of the finest examples of that toy I\'ve seen.It easily grades near mint+ with all original parts and paint; and itstill has its complete original box in excellent condition. Bestof all it works great!It\'d be tough to find a better example! The car is all tinplate except for the elongated double bubble roof andwindshields which can be raised and lowered manually. It was lithoedbrilliant cherry red with black chassis. Chrome plated trim runscontinuously around the entire car incorporating the side moldingdirectly into the front and rear bumpers. In addition, the Futura logowas lithoed onto the rear license plate and embossed on a large brassfinished hood ornament. The tires are solid black rubber with tinplate whitewalls and chromeplated centers. They can be angled in any direction. It has itsoriginal circular, spring mounted antenna mounted to the trunk, whichis just in front of the on/off switch. A remotecontrolled and friction version were also produced. All are difficultto find. The box cover was illustrated with a full color, full panelillustration; with the Futura logo just above it. It\'s interesting thata font exists which used this exact lettering style and is called\"Futura\"! Front and rear panels have schematics showing how to use theon/off switch and battery insertion. It also has a small color sideview of the car on each end. The box bottom uses a folded liparound the edge in place of an insert. Size: 11\". Condition: Spectacular original litho surfaces confirmedunder black light. Nothing touched-up. Nothing repainted. The tail finshave the merest pinpoint spot of wear which is difficult to see inperson and in the photos. The red area seen on the left tail light (2nd car photo down) was due to reflection. Chrome plating is all intact without anydulling or flaking. The bubble roof and windshields are perfect withouta single scuff, scratch, or crack. Tires haven\'t any rim wear. The leftrear whitewall has a single tiny scuff. On the underside the batterycompartment is spotless without any rust. The chassis is near mint witha single tiny light scuff towards the front-center of the batterycompartment door. A minute wear spot is also present under the compartment doornear the locking tab (caused when closing). This can only be seen whenthe battery door is open. It runs beautifully without any hesitation. The light are strong and work great. The on/off switch was \"finicky\".When I first inserted batteries it didn\'t work. When I moved the switchinto position slowly it worked every time. Use fresh batteries. The cargrades near mint+.The box grades excellent. It\'s square and even all around. The colorsare uniformly intense. The corners are nice and tight without anysplitting. Each has a small wear spot. There\'s also a tiny spot of edgewear just above the letter \"i\" in Lincoln. Original staples are all inplace. The cover does have two areas of damage which have beenrepaired. They consist of small, concentrated tears and creasing whichwere probably caused by a ding. No paper was missing. It\'s alloriginal; I inspected these areas under black light. Nothing has beentouched-up. They\'re located on an edge; one just above the word\"Futura\", the second just below the word \"operated\". I\'ve shownenlarged photos of both areas. The only other crease is faint andshort. It\'s on the rear panel, right side, near the edge and is alsoshown below. The box bottom is in similar condition. Two of the folded lip edges have a single tear. These correspond to the two dings on the cover. A very old 1” strip of tape was placed underneath each which can\'t be seenunless you turn up the folded edge. That\'s it!Overall a truly awesome and difficult to find toy and box.
