College basketball program for a game played at the Allen Field House in Lawrence, Kansas on Feb. 15, 1958 between Kansas and Iowa State.
Wilt Chamberlain\'s Junior Year with Kansas 1957-1958. The Jayhawks finished 18-5 in second place in the conference behind Kansas State and Bob Boozer, and missed the NCAA Tournament.
By his second year at Kansas Wilt had grown frustrated with coach Dick Harp. Wilt had come to Kansas when the coach was Phog Allen, whom Wilt respected. When Allen turned 70 after Wilt\'s freshman season, the great Hall of Fame coach was forced to retire by the University. Wilt did not get along with his replacement Harp and many wondered if Wilt would have gone to Kansas if he knew Allen would no longer be the coach.
Despite individual success and being named to the All American team with fellow future Hall of Famers Elgin Baylor, Oscar Robertson, and Guy Rodgers, Wilt left school early, after this junior year, and played one year with the Globetrotters until he was eligible for the NBA.
