1960 West Germany-DUX ASTRO MAN ROBOT-ALL ORIGINAL ROBOT-NMIB-Ships Worldwide
Here we have an early classic battery operated robot known as the DUX ASTRO MAN. It is plastic with metal motor components and has a remote control. He measures a bit over 12 inches tall with antenna attached.
The transparent green plastic components are attached to the metal chassis. The head is made of a luminous plastic. The antenna is notoriously fragile and the parts are inclined to distort. This one has its\' original antenna in the original bag and the dome is the least warped we\'ve ever seen. really sharp!
The robot is complete and all original (except for foam hand pads...they are replaced). There is a very slight separation to one side seam as shown. One foot is a slightly lighter shade than the other...not faded, just fabricated that way, the color is totally even.
He also works perfectly...advancing with walking motion, lighted chest. Functions include bending over, opening and closing arms.
Overall he is Near Mint/Mint with no cracks or breaks...in an original box bottom with insert...antenna is in original baggie...original c-7/8 instructions included. Robot is complete and all original. Box Top is a custom replacement and displays wonderfully!

The German patent for this toy was issued in 1959. The original design was for a kit robot, designed so children could take it apart. The motor was a normal wind-up, the body, arms and legs were made in plastic.
At the 1960 Toy Fair in Nürnberg the robot appeared and was a flop: too expensive and too complex. The designer, Herr. Knoch made only 200 pieces. Later he made the now familiar design in plastic and this was a bestseller.
Anecdotally the robot was received as a present in 1960 but the first firm dating is in a Dux catalog for 1962.
