Here is a rare original August 1968 Schwinn Stingray \"APPLE KRATE\" 20\" muscle bike. (HD Serial Number) This bike is from the era when most everything was cool! (the HEMICUDA, Mach 1 Mustang, and Camaro Z-28 come to mind!)
*This is agruably one of the very COOLEST Schwinn bikes of all time! EVERY kid wanted one back in the day... few were lucky enough to own one. You did not see them often back in the day, and almost NEVER see them in any condition these days! They were designed after the drag racing muscle cars of the time! They hit the nail on the head with this one! They are SO cool!
*The bike is LOADED with cool options only found on the top of the line \"Krate\" series at the time. The bike has the cool correct \"cantalever\" 5-speed Schwinn frame, cool wide apehanger handlebars, matching red Schwinn hand grips, chrome Schwinn SPRINGER front forks, (no S bolts) cool Schwinn BOW pedals, 5-speed \"Mag\" sprocket, chrome rear fender, (the 68 model did not come with a front fender) cool rear SHOCKS sissy bar and so much more! It has the cool Schwinn front rim with the correct ATOM drum brake. (the atom is missing the side cover and in rough shape but it does function, see pics) The rear wheel is a 5-speed Schwinn S-2 rear wheel. Both front and rear tires hold air. The front tire is a Schwinn Superior. The rear is a slightly newer SLICK tire! Appears to be one of the few non original parts on the bike. (see pics and be your own judge) The STICK SHIFTER is super cool but is newer than the bike. (I believe is from a 1970-73 model and does not have an overload tube)
*I dont know where you would find another like it! It is awesome! This one has its original chainguard in place with a fresh decal. The bike is an original 5-speed STICK SHIFT with operable hand controlled brakes. It shifts and brakes. (needs fine tuning adjustment) This bike has been in very long term storage and cannot wait to be enjoyed once again! The bike appears to be mostly (not all) original parts from when it was new! (see pics and be your own judge) I like the Apple Krate red banana seat! It has the rear STINGRAY tag and the rear reflector hanger. The seat has obvious wear, age, rips, etc.
*This bike was found in Chicago years ago. A buddy of mine had it and just did not have the time to restore it. Bikes like this rarely come along in any condition. ESPECIALLY one that has not been trading numerous times amongst all the collectors. Finds like this almost NEVER come along these days! I hope you enjoy it!
*Now is your chance to own one of the COOLEST bikes EVER MADE! Make someone in your life happy with this one. This is a cool bike that you can enjoy for years! It is money in the bank and will only go UP in value! You RARELY find these bikes anymore! They were all abused and thrown away back in the 1970s-80s. Finding one these days is a big challenge. If you check out , the selection on any 1960s Stingray bikes is very little. They are very cool and people enjoy owning, riding, and displaying them! Most people do not sell these bikes once they have them. Be the first to get this bike back out in the light and have fun with it! I believe this to be a fairly nice original unmolested bicycle unless otherwise noted.
*NOTED FLAWS This bike needs restoration from top to bottom or enjoy it in its current unrestored patina. (some people LOVE that!) The paint is original but has LOTS of wear, chips, scratches, etc. (Please see pics, I dont want you to get the bike and then be unhappy about the condition. It needs a full restoration from top to bottom. I took lots of pics and have nothing to hide! Still, it is one of the COOLEST Schwinn bikes EVER made! The chrome is shiney but is not perfect show quality. The 2 front springer truss rods have a slight wave to them. (see pics0 Both wheels have a slight wobble when you spin them. (seems every used bike out there does too) Again, the side cover is missing from the ATOM but the hub does work. This is a great find! ENJOY! Either way it is SUPER COOL and they are AWESOME bikes! Most people do not sell them who have them. I hope you love it! With a little tlc, you will have a really cool bike that will only go UP in value! A good \"fixer upper\" type bike or possibly use it for its very valuable hard to find parts! *Sorry for the LONG description, these bikes really excite me. This awesome ride starts low with ABSOLUTELY so offer early and don\'t miss out! This will sell to the high buyer! Sorry, no buy it now is offered. People will ENVY you when you ride by at a car show or on the street with this bike! Sold as is because it is used. I try to list anything I notice with the bike. Keep in mind this is a vintage bike that has probably not been ridden for a while so it may need minor tuning, bearings greased, polishing, etc, These bikes are getting harder to find and are more popular than ever before! You will enjoy owning, riding, and displaying it for years! People always remember these bikes but seldom see them in person. Your new vintage bike will be shipped partially disassembled in a factory bike box. I take them in to have them packaged so they almost always arrive in the same condition as they left us. You may want to consider insurance, just in case. Once it has shipped, I cannot be responsible for lost or damaged items without insurance.
