This listing is for a very handsome 19th century English hot water kettle on stand. The kettle measures 16 inches or 40.6 cm high to the top of the finial and is 9 ½ inches or 24 cm wide from handle to handle.
The piece features a scrolling footed rounded edge square base. This supports the smooth flared standard and lobed bulbous body. The lobes around the body have repousse work in floral motifs. On each side of the body is an arching handle with a hand turned wood inserts. The spout at the front of the kettle is 4 ¾ inches long from the body and has a carved wood shell form handle. The kettle is marked on the bottom “SB&M”, this for the English silver company Sturges, Bladdon & Middletown circa 1884.
The condition overall is very good. There are age appropriate variations to the silver plate patina, and some minor surface scratches. Please see the many photographs for more on the look and condition as they are an important part of the description.
