Introducing the Hashimoto HW-40-5:

The Hashimoto HW-40-5 is for applications that require the 5K Ohms primary with up to 40 Watts output level into 4, 8, 16 Ohms. The HW-40-5 is equipped with an Ultra-Linear tap, and its frequency response covers between 10Hz and 60,000Hz (+-3db) - please click the right thumbnail to see the actual chart. The HW-40-5 is suitable for typical Push-Pull applications that utilize popular vacuum tubes, such as 300B, KT-88, 6550, EL34 (6CA7), and 6L6-GC.

The HW-40-5 measures 80 (W) x 88 (D) x 110 (H) mm, and weighs 2.4Kg (5.3 LB). The Primary Inductance is 150H, andthe Maximum DC Current can be up to 125mA x 2. The HW-40-5 consists of a double Cut-Core in the shell type. The core material is 0.27mm Orient Core Hi-B, which is the enhanced directional silicon steel, from Nippon Steel Corporation. Hashimoto engineers has intentionally avoided to use permalloy or amorphous cores for sonic reasons. Please refer to ourHashimoto Transformer Technical Aspects page for more details on technical details as well as Hashimoto Product Design Philosophy.

The Hashimoto HW-40-5 is the most popular Push-Pull output transformers that Hashimoto Electric, Ltd. in Tokyo Japan introduced in 2002. Today, Hashimoto products are regarded as one of the premier tube amp transformers among Japanese hi-fi enthusiasts and columnists who originally introduced the sound of single-ended amplifiers in the world during1980’s and 1990’s. In fact, some of most influential columnists have been switching their favorite transformers of their choice from Tamura or Tango, to ones with Hashimoto brand, such as the HW-40-5.

Who is Hashimoto Electric anyway? Hashimoto is by-no-means a new comer in this very traditional, but exciting industry. Hashimoto Electric, Ltd., in Tokyo Japan has been a long-time Sansui transformer OEM (since 1960’s). Hashimoto merged Sansui’s transformer business in 1978, and Hashimoto was the company who reproduced the AU-111 transformers when Sansui reissued the famed AU-111 in 1999 as the AU-111 Vintage. As a matter of fact, Hashimoto is the only company that still carries the original Sansui logo on its product lines. Today, Hashimoto Electric manufactures not only various traditional transformers that Sansui pioneered many years ago, but also high-end tube amp transformers under its own brand name. The amazing thing is that all Hashimoto transformers are still handcrafted one-by-one by very skilled and experienced employees (Please refer to the actual photos below I took when visited Hashimoto last June).

By considering these historical facts, it can be said that the HW-40-5 is a direct descendent of series of Sansui Push-Pull output transformers that were utilized in famous models such as the AU-111, the AU-70, the 1000A, as well as more scarce and legendary models, such as the BA-202 and the BA-303. However, one of the most significant differences is that the HW-40-5 equips with an Ultra-Linear tab that was rare in the early 1960's. Furthermore, the HW-40-5 has been redesigned from the ground up by ex-Sansui transformer engineers who now work for Hashimoto Electric. This means that the HW-40-5 still maintains the basic superior characteristics and sound of Sansui transformers, at the same time, the HW-40-5 is a 21st Century product that has been fine-tuned with computer aided programs and has utilized new materials that were simply not available forty some years ago. As the result, the HW-40-5 is one of the leading Hashimoto products that have been winning reputations among critics as, "The sound through Hashimoto transformers simply belongs to a different class compared with that of competitions."

Should you need a pair of HW-100-5 (100W, 5K Ohms), HW-60-5 (60W, 5K Ohms), or HW-40 (40W), HW-25 (25W), HW-15 (15W) class of push-pull output transformers in various impedance, such as 5K, 8K, or 10K Ohms. Please let us know. We will import them, and list them on .
