3 Vintage Nippon (?) Jeweled Moriage Cups and Saucers (1 extra saucer)Light and translucent porcelain, these are in excellent condition except for a hairline on the bottom of one saucer that does not go through the body.
The gold remains in very good to excellent condition.
The flowers are scarlet poppies, a symbol in Europe to remember sacrifices made in past wars and a symbol of loyalty and faith between lovers in chinese art.
All pieces are covered in poppies and the brushstrokes from the hand-painting can still be seen. Each poppy is outlined in heavy gold moriage.
The border is a deep red/magenta that has jewels and a gold floral overlay.
There are 3 footed teacups The teacups are 2.5 inches high with a 3.625 inch diameter.Two saucers are slightly different in the center than the others - see photo #7 and #8 for the two different styles.
The saucer in photo #8 has a 5.375 inch diameter and in #7 these saucers have a 5.5 inch diameter.
There are no markings on the bottom of these pieces (see photo #11).
In the last photo I have a separate listing for a coordinating teaset. The set has a green or gold border instead of the deep red/magenta seen in these cups and the moriage is not as heavy or detailed.
The sole tea-cup in that set is to the right in photo #11.
