Drop forged at a Four Star Elephant Sabatierfactory in Thiers France from Carbon Steel. This piece is a real find. It waslocated in a warehouse owned by a gentleman who was one of the last majorinvestors in the Sabatier factory. When I showed interest in them he told methat they were forged at the turn of the century. Nobody knows exactly how oldthey truly are but my guess would be somewhere in the 20s to the 50s.
These blanks are straight from the forge, the edges on the blades have not been ground or worked in any way.
This would make a nice three knife set. In this set is a 9 inch slicer, an 8 inch Chef\'s, and a 6 inch. What a find, when these are gone they will be gone for good.
Please check my other listings I now have Original Sabatier Brass Rivets to go along with these blanks. I would go with 2 sets of the 5/16 rivets (for the 9 and 8 inch) and 1 of the 4/16 rivets (for the 6 inch.)
Please note that just like the finished Sabatier Chef’s Knives of this period some of these blanks have slight bends or misalignment The French refer to the misalignment issue as a “feature” of handmade knives and not a “defect”. I always cherry pick each blank for straightness before shipping but if one gets by me and you receive one that has a slight bend it can easily be straightened by holding it with the flat of your hand against a surface and giving it a light tug.
