Firstlaunched in 1993, the Newton MessagePad was one of the first series of handheldsystems, or PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), to attempt to recognize naturalhandwriting and use a basic form of artificial intelligence to \'tie\' relevantinformation together. The MessagePad 120,codenamed Gelato, was released in October 1994 in Germany and on January 30,1995 in the US. It was discontinued in1996.
