This listing is for a new-old-stock Cyrix 6x86L microprocessor.

Cyrix was a new kind of competitor for Intel. Cyrix was a chip maker that didn’t make chips. AMD had been around for some time, as second sourcer and a competitor. Cyrix designed microprocessors, but farmed out the actual manufacturing process. Cyrix worked with TI and Thompson before turning to IBM for the 6x86. The 6x86 is Cyrix’s best known product. Although Cyrix identified it as a 6th generation processor, it completed against competed with Intel’s fifth generation, P5, or Pentium processors, very successfully.

The 6x86L was a cooler low power version of the 6x86. The first 6x86 had heat problems compared with the Intel Pentium. This 6x86L was manufactured for Cyrix by IBM. The chip die picture of the 6x86L is just for reference and is not included.
