The system is housed in a mini-tower enclosure and yielded the highest performance of any entry-level server on the market at the time. The system, which runs at 166 MHz, ran up to four times faster than comparable competitive servers of its day. The AlphaServer 400 4/166 supports 192 Mbytes of memory and 8.4 Gbytes of storage. It was ideal for such key applications in departments as ECAD, FABS, and EDI as well as horizontal applications such as database and high-performance computing.The system runs three operating systems--Digital's UNIX (DEC OSF/1), OpenVMS, and Microsoft Windows NT Server.
