Thanks for checking out this absolutely fantastic find! We all love the A-2 type jacket for obvious reasons, and to find one that can be tied to the original owner is quite amazing. This example was purchased at a recent sale along with alarge grouping of photographs showing pictures of the owner (a pilot) during both his time in the service during WWII and post war, when he continued on with his obvious love for flying. Let\'s start with the jacket! As you can see in the very detailed pictures, it has seen quite a bit of use. It is not beat up by any stretch of the imagination, but it was definitely well loved and worn. The majority of the wear to the leather itself is seen inside the collar, but there is minor wear and discoloration throughout. We have made no attempt to clean or treat the leather other than giving it a quick dusting off. The cuffs, collarand waist are in great condition, and the (Conmar marked) zipper and all other hardwareis present and working as intended. The interior label identifies it as a \"Type A-2, Drawing No. 3C-1415, Contract No. W535 AC 23381, Cooper Sportswear MFG Co., Newark, NJ\". Below this is a hand written laundry number. It is a size medium, with the chest measuring (armpit to armpit) 19\" across, the sleeves measuring (top of sleeve to end of cuff) 23\" and the overall length (top of collar to bottom of waist) 28\". There are stitches on the left breast where a name tape was once applied. This can be seen in the pictures. The interior is lined in light brown rayon or what could be a cotton/rayon blend. There is wear in places where you would expect, but overall it is in good condition. There are small holes/tears in the lining at each armpit, along the waist line and at the edge/corner of each side of the waist (see pics). As mentioned, there is alarge grouping of photographs showing the owner during his service time, with other family photos as well as photos of him after the war at the local airport. Some of the photos show him with training aircraft as well as with a bi-plane. He apparently had a passion for remote control model airplanes as there are quite a few photos of these. One of the standout photos, an 8 x 10, shows a Willys Jeep that was modified into a fuel truck. It is show refueling one of the planes at the airport wearing \"Esso\" logos. We have been able to positively identifythe ownerfrom notes on the pictures as well as other paperwork that came with the album, which includes the negatives for many of the photos. His name is on the envelope for the negatives and his name and address are found on a post card that is included with the grouping. We were able to find his Army Serial Number and researched the archives. All of this information will be provided to the winning buyer. This is to respect the privacy of the family of the owner. I can tell you that he is from Massachusetts and enlisted at Ft. Devens in 1944 right after graduating from high school. What more can we say about this absolutely fantastic grouping?!? We were thrilled to own it andI am sure you will feel the same way! Please note that I will ship immediately after payment arrives toenable Christmas delivery. This may require express mail shipping in some cases. I have offered a few options for shipping to best suit the winning buyers needs. Feel free to ask any questions you may have as I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. Thanks for checking it out and best of luck with the offerding!
