An ancient Chinese Sui dynasty straw glazedfigure of a court lady, dating to 581 – 618 AD.
With the loose folds of her dress cascading down to the ground, this lady of fashion stands with her left hand held in towards the body, the right hidden in the garment. She has a serene expression, possibly derived from contemporary Buddhist sculpture and an elaborate headress.Covered in the distinctive straw coloured glaze for which the Sui dynasty is famous.

Mr. O\'Hara was a prominent numismatist, author and collector who in later life developed a passion for Chinese terracotta art of the Han - Song period. He sought only the finest examples of their type, buying at a time in the late 1980s when examples without widespread deceptive restorations could still be acquired. ArtAncient purchased the entire collection directly from his heirs and is now honoured to present these items to the market after nearly 35 years. With an inventory label reading \"49\" on the back.
