Antique 1835 LANCASTER Jacquard Woven Coverlet Textile by Benjamin Kiehl
Price: US $320.00

This is a terrific large antique LANCASTER, PA three color jacquard double weave heavy weight coverlet. Signed and dated, \"Benja (Benjamin) Kiehl\" \"1835\" and \"Fanny Staver\". Benjamin Kiehl was the weaver and Fanny Staver the person for which this was woven. Benjamin Kiehl was born in 1807 in Berks Co. PA and died in 1895 in Lancaster Co. PA. His coverlets date from 1834 to 1837 and include his name, the date and sometimes the client\'s name in the corner blocks. He stopped weaving in 1846. (Information taken from: \"American Coverlets and Their Weavers: Coverlets from the Collection of Foster and Muriel McCarl : Including a Dictionary of More Than 700 Coverlet Weavers\")

The coverlet features fringes on 2 sides and decorative elements containing birds, geometric patterns and flowers in blue, yellow and red on white. Unusual for this time period, this large coverlet was originally woven as two pieces and there is a seam down the middle where the two pieces were joined. There is some fraying along the top edge, two very small holes and a small stained area, see photos, but over all this is in great condition for a pre civil war item.

This coverlet measures approximately 86\" long and 81\" wide and weighs about 5 lbs. Please review the pictures closely. Feel free to ask any questions.
