Antique 1840s Texas TEXIAN CAMPAIGNE Staffordshire transferware 13\" platter, JB
Price: US $510.00

An antique Texian Campaigne platter, glazed earthenware with blue transfer, made in Staffordshire, England circa 1840.Shows a military scene of Napoleonic-style cavalry, presumably the Texan or Mexican Army in the Texas Revolution. The back is marked \'Texian Campaign\' and JB, and a number 3. A number 12 was also stamped into the wet clay before glazing.

Condition is very good/excellent. This is made of earthenware and therefore very fragile and easily chipped. The scalloped edge is intact all round and there are no chips missing anywhere. However, there are imperfections that I need to describe - there is a line abut 1\" long on the front near the center that looks like a cut in the surface. This is a manufacturing fault rather than actual damage. There are 4 tiny (1mm) holes in the glaze, but are barely visible and you have to look closely to see them. These are all pointed out in the pics. There are also two additional what look like cracks on the edge but these also look like manufacturing faults and are not see from the front. Finallythere are some white lines in the transfer itself (at about 4 o\'clock in the rim), also pictured. These are under the glaze and may be creasesor scratches in the transfer, also made at the time of manufacture. Is sounds like a long list but overall this is in really niceshape and none really detract from the piece in my opinion.
