Here's a real easy restoration project guaranteed to produce pleasing results. This is a 1931 Mills FOK vendor front escalator type slot machine. Both top and bottom front castings are excellent with very nice original paint and no cracks, chips, welds or repairs ever; the top back casting has been drilled with a hasp loop bolted to it. The back door is original Mills with good paint but has had the lock removed and a hasp welded to it. Presently, this machinecan be lockedwith a padlock. The top back casting is in good shape except for the holes drilled in it; they can be filled and the back casting successfully used. The back door requires more work or the substitution of an unmolested Mills back door to be original. No original Mills lock is included with the sale of this machine but I have numerous of them should you want to buy one for it. The wood cabinet is excellent with excellent original gold leaf on the sides, original Mills decals and original laquer finish; I wouldn't refinish them. The award card and the Mint Vendor instructions are excellent originals as well. The original jackpot safety glass has delaminated and can be separated, the safety lining removed and the two panes put back together and re-used, or a new piece of glass can easily be reinstalled. The jackpot assembly including working reserve is complete and fully functional. The play after a jackpot is hit, the upper jackpot dumps into the lower jackpot window. On the following play the upper window closes and begins to refill. This way the player always has a full jackpot to play for.The escalator which includes the second-coin block is complete and fully functional. Second-coin blocksare usually removed and discarded; because of this, andthe great condition of the rest of the machine, you can bet this machine wasn't used much. The handle has excellent original nickel finish and all handle linkage and the pump work perfectly although they need cleaned and lubricated for every-day use. All cabinet hardware is in place and fully functional. An original Mills cash box is in good shape and in place. The mechanism is 100% there....all no-cheat devices are in place and functional, the jackpot overflow check is there and works, and all brake wires and vendor activation components are present and functional. This machine has near perfect original metal reel strips. This machine plays and pays properly but has been in long-term storage and should be cleaned and lubricated for satisfactory dailyuse. Every mechanical component of this machine is rust and corrosion free. Note: the right rear corner of the mechanism base has a chip out of it. This doesn't function its ability for use. The original thumb screws that secure the mechanism to the cabinet base plate compensate perfectly. The mechanism fitsthe jackpot assembly, escalator and handle linkage perfectly and allfour function correctly and precisely together. I'd do nothing to these mechanical components besides minor cleaning and lubrication. Overall this is a nicely functioning, easy-to-restore vintage slot with unusual, desirable features. Restored it will be worth twice what I hope to get for it. I've collected antique slots for forty-plus years and am getting too old to complete all my projects. I hope a younger collector finds this machine worthwhile. Careful crating in a wood crate costs $40 and is well worth it; I've never had a machine damaged thisway. Insured shipping in the lower 48 states is $165; U.S. sales only, please.
