This is an antique Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) 14 karat gold medal, ribbon and pin with its original box and was made by J. E. Caldwell & Co. in Philadelphia. It was made in the late 1800's or early 1900's because it belonged to my wife's great-grandmother. The chapter bar on the top of the blue and white ribbon is in the shape of a banner and has a pin and clasp on the rear. It is engraved "John Penn Chapter" on the front. The ancestry bar in the middle is also in the shape of a banner and it is engraved with the ancestor's name "Micajah Bullock". On the back is engraved "J. E. Caldwell & Co." on the left side and "Patent" on the right side. The medal has the DAR wheel design set atop a platinum flag. It has thirteen stars around the perimeter and inside the wheel in gold lettering is "Daughters of the American Revolution" on blue enamel. On the middle of the back side is engraved "Frances Bullock Moss - 200765" and on the left side is "Caldwell & Co." and engraved perpendicular to that is "14 K". The medal also has a pin and clasp on the rear. The medal measures 1" from star to star and the flag staff is 1-1/2". The width of the ribbon is 1-1/4" and the length of the ribbon and medal is 4". The weight of the total piece is 10.7 grams. If you enlarge the pictures, you can see that the ribbon shows some wear but the three gold pieces are in very good shape. The box measures 2-1/4" wide x 3-1/4" tall and shows some wear. This would be a very nice addition to your collection.
