The family owned several kaolin mines and thus had access to one of the major ingredients needed to manufacture hard paste porcelain. Jean Pouyat founded the porcelain factory bearing his name in Limoges, France, in 1842. Pouyat manufactured a wide variety of decorative porcelain wares, many of which were exported to the United States.DESCRIPTIONThis listing is for an antique Jean Pouyat Limoges hand painted porcelain flower vase. This vase features a beautiful motif of hand painted rose flowers and foliage in shades of pale pink, green, and yellow set against an ivory background. The front and back of the vase feature different motifs of hand painted roses; the neck of the vase carries triangular flanges which with small decorative scrolls on either side. The mold carries six feet on the bottom edge of the vase. The edges of the rim have been hand painted in gold gilt; the inside of the neck of the vase has been hand painted in pale pink glaze tones. The bottom of the vase carries the Pouyet mark as well as the embossed numbers 547 and the letter B.CONDITIONThis antique Pouyat Limoges hand painted flower vase is in overall wonderful condition. I did notice one small area which I believe to be a manufacturing flaw dating to when the glazes were fired on to the porcelain in the furnace. My opinion is that there was a piece of perhaps carbon which adhered to the side of the vase and then was later dislodged to reveal the white ware underneath. This area measures 1.25 mm. in width and is 1/2 inch from the bottom of the vase on one of the six feet. Other than this one area the rest of the hand painted porcelain is free of any signs of damage such as chips, cracks, flea bites, or repairs. The hand painted gold gilt embellishment on the edge of the rim is also completely intact and damage free. This antique Limoges vase has come from a smoke free estate collection and is odor free.~SHIPPING COSTS~ This sale item will be shipped via United States Priority Mail shipping; your package will be fully insured.
