The family owned several kaolin mines and thus had access to one of the major ingredients needed to manufacture hard paste porcelain. Jean Pouyat founded the porcelain factory bearing his name in Limoges, France, in 1842. Pouyat manufactured a wide variety of decorative porcelain wares, many of which were exported to the United States.DESCRIPTIONThis sale is for an antique Limoges Jean Pouyat hand painted porcelain flower vase with hand painted motif featuring a forest hunting scene with an English setter. This is truly one of the most beautiful pieces of Limoges I have ever seen. The vase was hand painted by Pouyat artist K. Ryboc and features a forest motif. The hand painted forest features trees with foliage and boulder formations; the front of the vase features a hunting motif and features the likeness of an English Setter sporting dog. The dog is on point with what appears to be a pheasant in his mouth.The back of the vase is decorated with a scene of the forest with trees and boulder formations.The neck of the vase has been hand painted with gold gilt.The lower edge of the vase has been signed by the Pouyat artist K. Ryboc.The bottom of the vase carries the mark 5 white ware Jean Pouyot makers mark in green, the words SHOUFFER HAND PAINTED, and the embossed blank number 563 1.CONDITIONIn my opinion the condition of this hand painted antique Jean Pouyat English Setter dog Limoges vase is in wonderful condition. The hand painted porcelain is free of any signs of damage such as chips, cracks, flea bites, or repairs. I did not notice any signs of surface crazing. This antique Pouyat vase has come from a smoke free estate collection and is odor free.~SHIPPING COSTS~ I am shipping this package to you via United States Priority Mail shipping; your package will be fully insured.
