We were on our way back from Louisville & the Antique Bowie Knife Assoc. show and meeting when we dropped by our space in the Cowboys & Indian Antiques (4000 Central, NE.Albuquerque,NM.) to refresh our spot.I wasn\'t there long before I realized that my primitive knife selection had overpowered our spot so some serious triage was in order and that called for a big sale.This offering is for a 19th century John Russell \"Green River\" Bowie knife.Russell was a prolific maker in the 19th and 20th century and his knives were the gold standard on the American frontier.This knife show a little \"bellying\" from period sharpening and also shows age appropriate staining and old rust but doesn\'t show any recent sharpening and hasn\'t been messed with.It is11\" overall with a 6 1/2\" blade.The stag is butter smooth and tight & the escutcheon plate is un-engraved.
