An antique Native AmericanIroquois beaded velvet cap or glengarry dating from the mid to late 19th century. This cap is unusual as the beads include both glass & metal beads in subtle colours & the cap itself is lined with silk, not the usual cotton fabric. It has a silk ribbon bow at the back.
It is in fairly good condition with some losses to the beadwork and wear to the silk lining, clearly visible in the photos. It would have been worn perched on top of the head, aswith the Scottish version of this hat, and it measures about 11.75 inches long from front to back, 6 inches wide and 3.75 inches high (30 by 15.5 by 9.5 cm.)
The photos can be enlarged for more detail. Please take time to look at all 11 photos. I am listing a second antique glengarry this week, probably made by the same hand.
