We wanted to take photo\'s of how it looked from inside the package. You will receive the shank that is in my hand.This listing is for a shank of antique thread or cord. This shank was found in an old barn attic, wrapped in brown paper and tied with string. We found several packages in the bottom of a large metal box. The brown paper is marked \"Made in France, Vieil OR, 3500/4000, 1010grs\". (\'Vieil Or’ means ‘old gold’ in French)
The paper is very frail. I don\'t actually know for sure what it was used for. I did a little research and found some items that resembled what this is. It may be cord that was used for beading or embroidery. It may have been used for trim. The cord may have a metal coating. It is a heavy package. It has a twisted look and it is sturdy. It has been well preserved for many years. If anyone knows for sure what this is, I would love to hear from you.
*Addition: Recently heard from someone who said that her husband used this thread many years ago for embroidery in decorationg robes, vestments and other fabric items for churches. She said that real gem stones and pearls were used as well and that the metal is real and that is was likely of great value.Quantity: There are more than 200 strands to a skein and the length is 19\".
