A decorated Stoneware Crock, 2-Gallon capacity, New York Stare origin, ca.1850-1880. There is a crisp, impressed stamp with (drippy cobalt wash) on the shoulder that reads: WHITES UTICA. See Internet for further information on this well-respected Upstate manufactory.


A well-potted, cylindrical form with tooled rim and applied lug handles. Front features a large Fantail Bird on a sprig in the boldest Slip-Trailed Cobalt. The decoration is well-executed with tremendous Folk Art appeal. Shiny, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior.


Condition: Shallow chips on the handles (1L/2R), as shown; otherwise Excellent. Two glazed-over stone pings on the backside noted for descriptive accuracy. No cracks, repaired damage or other excuses. A wonderful folky piece from this maker with zero fry; highly-appropriate for any collection of Antique Stoneware or Americana.
