A decorated Stoneware Jar, Mid-Atlantic origin, probably Pennsylvania or Maryland, ca.1840-1860. Semi-Ovoid form with applied reeded handles; each terminal brushed with heavy Cobalt with a connecting floral swag below. Both sides feature a primitive Brushed Cobalt fern-like floral 2X. Two parallel incised lines on the shoulder with a pronounced footed base. The capacity mark (\"2\") is impressed on one side. Salt Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior.Condition: Two shallow chips on the rim; otherwise in excellent original condition. No cracks, repaired damage or restoration work. This piece has tremendous character; the rim has actually warped in the kiln, creating a perfect oval opening! See photo set for complete details and close-ups. Please consider them as part of the description. Measures approximately 9-1/2\"W x 11-3/4\"H overall with a base diameter of 7-1/8\".
