Antique Stoneware: 2G Ovoid Jug w/ Primitive Cobalt, NJ or NY Origin, c.1800, NR
Price: US $164.50

An Early American Stoneware Jug, approximate 2 Gallon capacity, New Jersey/South Amboy or New York/Manhattan origin, ca.1780-1820. Highly-Ovoid, Salt-Glazed form with tooled, ring spout and applied, reeded strap handle. The shoulder with a primitive Cobalt Decoration. In addition, a heavy cobalt accent on the lower handle terminal.

Condition: Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted throughout, including stack marks, scars, pot stones, crazing, etc., as shown. There is clay separation on the base, likely occurring at the time of production (see close-up, photo #10). Also, a shallow flake on the spout, revealing a salmon-colored base clay, probably due to iron content. No repaired damage or restoration work. A wonderful early form with tremendous character; highly-appropriate for display in your Country or Primitive setting. See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description. This is a solid and heavy vessel, measuring approximately 9-1/2\"W x 14\"H with a base diameter of 5-1/2\"; 9.8 lbs.
