An early Ovoid Stoneware Jug, approximate 1-Gallon capacity, Boston, Massachusetts, ca.1815. Well-potted, Salt-Glazed form with tooled, slightly-sloping spout and applied strap handle. Single incised line about the shoulder. Bears the impressed stamp attributed to Frederick Carpenter, reading simply: CHARLESTOWN. This mark was used on Carpenter\'s wares from 1812 until his death in 1827. See William Ketchum\'s \"American Stoneware\", p.49, for further information.
Condition: Inherent glaze and surface anomalies, as shown; otherwise in Excellent, as-made condition. There is a small indentation or scar below the stamp that is glazed-over and occurred at the time of production. Wonderful overall form and highly sought-after maker\'s mark.
