Antique Stoneware: J&E Norton Jug w/ Cobalt Floral Bouquet, Bennington VT, 1850s
Price: US $211.50

A very impressive decorated Stoneware Jug, 2Gal. capacity, New England origin, ca.1850\'s. There is a crisp, cobalt-washed stamp on the shoulder reading: J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT. This is the mark of Julius and his cousin, Edward, and dates between 1850-1859; a decade of that produced some of the finest Norton examples. Front features an exceptional Floral Bouquet, executed in glassy, extra bold Slip-Trailed Cobalt; there is zero fry on this decoration. The Salt Glaze has a pebbled texture and super shiny. The oversized spout opening gives even further appeal.

Condition: Minor imperfections in the making, two shallow rim chips and a faint, surface-only hairline on the backside (lower right); otherwise Excellent. The spout slants slightly to the left and there is and old piece of masking tape affixed to the base. Very strong color on the Norton decoration; this Keeper will not disappoint.

See photos for complete details and close-ups. Please consider them as part of the description. Very desirable 2Gal. capacity; measures approximately 8-1/4\"W x 13-1/4\"H overall; 8.2 lbs.
