Antique SW Co Whitman Military Cavalry Saddle W/ RIA 1905-06 US Hooded Stirrups
Price: US $350.00

This is an antique Whitman Military saddle. The only markings that I could find on the main body of the saddle itselfare the marking of \"S.W. Co. N.Y.\" which is on both of the brass safety stirrup barsthat the stirrup leathers attach to. and I have shown one of the S.W. Co. N.Y. markings in the 6th picture.

(Please view all 12 of the pictures and the zoom feature is available. Also if you click on the main picture it will enlarge it and then larger images of all of the other pictures can be seen as well).

The saddle comes with a horse-hair girth and two U.S. stamped hooded stirrups. The leatherhoods on both of the stirrups are marked Rock Island Arsenal on their sides and one has the date of 1905 thereandthe otherhas the date of 1906. These markings can be seen in pictures #8 & 9.

Then R.I.A. is also stamped into the wood of the bottom of each of the wooden stirrups, with the date of 1906 on one and a faint marking of 1905 on the other. These markings can be seen in the 10th picture.

The main body of the saddle has numerous scuff marks, along withseveral scratches and I have tried to show an example of this in the 5th picture.

The very back prominent end of the cantle is very scuffedat it\'s very end and there also seems to be a small hole in the leather in amongst this large scuffed area and I have tried to show this in pictures #11 & 12.

The upper and lower straps on the saddle all are worn and there is surface cracking of the leather on all of the straps. Even so the upper leather straps are still securely attached to the saddle.

The stirrup leathers like-wise show wear, with some surface cracking of the leather as well. But for an older Military saddle their condition is good and they still retain quite a bit of their flexibility.

The U.S. marked hooded stirrups show wear as well. Both leather hoods have numerous little scuff marks and one has a 3 1/4\" very shallow crack in the leather of it\'s hood rightat each side where the leather of the hood is bent aroundit\'s attached wooden stirrup. I believe if you look closely at the 8th picture you might be able to see one of these shallow cracks in one of the hoods. There is splintering of the wood on the outside corners of each of the wooden stirrups and this can be seen in the 10th picture.

Very nice example of a Whitman Military saddle which would make a great addition to anyone\'s Cavalry collection.

This old saddle is being sold \"no returns\" and I will gladly send anyone any additional pictures that they might like. I will also be happy to answer any questions.

buyers from the lower 48 states only please and payment would be appreciated with-in 3 days after the sale ends. Thank-you.
