Hello. Hereis an ornate antique Victorian silver platedearly Lawn Tennis trophy.Engraved to one side, \"DEVONSHIRE PARK LAWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT 1879\",and on the other \" DOUBLE TIES WON BY W.M.LOW\". It measures 185mm high, including handles, and weighs 320 grams. This is very early for a Lawn Tennis trophy, as the rules werefirst writtenin 1874, and the Wimbledon All England Tennis Club tournament only started in 1877, when the rules were formalised, two years before this trophy was awarded. Devonshire Park first laid out a tennis court in 1875, and the Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club in Eastbourne now holds the ATP & WTA tour tournament called the Aegon Eastbourne International. The trophy is in good condition, just some minor plate wear. No dents or repairs. Please see photos to make your own assessment.
