The History
This lovely little pin was made during a period called the Art Nouveau Era. This time was also called \"La Belle Epoque\" in French which translates to \"A Beautiful Time\". This period was inexistencefrom 1890-1914. It is estimated that this piece is from that later end of 1910-1914.
This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came our of this period. The Art Nouveau period was famous for it\'s flowingorganicdesigns, flowing ladies, flowing floral designs, regal designs.
AustralianOpal was first discovered in the late 1890\'s. This form of opal was very expensive when first coming on the market and usually the higher class could afford it. It was famous for it\'s beautiful play of colors that include red, white, blue, green, and orange. Traditionally up until the discovery of Australian opal most opal stones only had 2-3 colors at the most and were veryopaquein hue.
Persian turquoise is a highly coveted and rarer type of turquoise. It has been mined for thousands of years in modern day Iran. The most coveted type of Persian turquoise is a solid bright blue that is often difficult to find. Antique Persian turquoise would have been even harder to come by, it would have been exported and this often carried a hefty price tag.
The Piece
The Persian Turquoise and the Australian Opal are all intricately placed in either Gothic style prongs of 4-6 at a time or receded into the gold work. All stones are in good condition. Some opals show more color and flare than others. These opals do have some wear with them which would be expected for a piece of this age. The colors are mostly green and some blue and tints of yellow. The turquoise range in various hues of solid blue. This is also expected. Over the years, turquoise can change color due to finger oils making them appear more darker.
Some of the prongs are shorter than others, some have more wear but all stones are in solid placement.
The gold work in this piecewouldof been expertly hand made by a talented gold smith of the Art Nouveau Era. The gold work in this piece includes gorgeous intricate twisting and granulated beads placed throughout the design. The center portion is raised higher than the rest of the piece allowing for a lovely 3Dappearance.
The pin is finished off with a newer replaced closed back latching
The piece is marked 14k on the hidden bale.
The pin measures approximately 1 3/4\'\' long by 1 1/4\" wide.

*Due to the age of some of these pieces some items will not be stamped. The National Stamping Act was not enacted until 1906, before 1906 jewelry was not legally required to have a karat mark. This is one way to date items prior to the Art Nouveau time period.

The XRF requires specialized training in order to correctly read the results. This is a $25,000 piece of equipment and is extremely accurate.
