The History

Retrojewelry refers to pieces created in the 1940’s and 1950’s, a period duringwhich jewelry designers were largely influenced by the changes accompanyingWorld War II. As the name of the period suggests, these designs reflect aninfusion of futuristic vision with elements inspired by preceding periods, encompassing a variety of gemstones, shapes, and materials.

Transitional Cut Diamonds were made in between Circa 1920 and 1940. These diamonds were the \"in between\" diamond transitioning from Old European Cut to the Modern Round Brilliant. They feature more facets and a slightly bigger table than their Modern Round Brilliant cousins. Due to the limited period these diamonds were cut, there are not many left, and they demand a premium due to their vintage appeal.

Abalone Shell is a type of Mollusk shell that has a beautiful opalescent hue. It has been harvested to use in jewelry since the times of the Greeks and Romans.

Rubies are considered one of the four precious gemstones in the world along with Diamonds, Emeralds, & Sapphires. Rubies have adorned Royal jewelry for years and has been highly prized for their rarity and gorgeous red hues.

Mediterranean Red coral grows on rocky sea bottom with low sedimentation, typically in dark environments—either in the depths or in dark caverns or crevices. The original species, C. rubrum (formerly Gorgonia nobilis), is found mainly in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Mediterranean Coral was previously cracked near the top, but has been professionally repaired since. Some glue and a minor line where the crack was is still visible, however, the piece is still gorgeous.

The design of this piece includes classic Retro Era craftsmanship throughout! The piece is put together to look like a complete Octopus! There is a textured flower design just below the Octopus\'s abalone head and thin strands of yellow gold at the end of the Octopus\'s tentacles.
