Notable Features:This brooch was handmade during the Art Nouveau era. The brooch features Persian turquoise and seed pearls throughout its monogrammed design. The Persian turquoise showcases various hues between a vibrant Robin\'s egg blue hue to a darker blue-green hue. This variance in hues is highly sought after as it is only attainable with age. All of the Persian turquoise stones were smoothly polished into a rounded cabochon shape, which blends with the rest of the design. The seed pearls within the piece all have their naturally rounded and polished shapes with a lustrous white-to-grey hue, adding an elegant feel to this piece. The 18k rose gold brooch is designed in what appears to be an interwoven Q and N. The Q holds all of the Persian turquoise stones, with the N holding all of the seed pearls. This era focused on women and the beauty of nature and the pieces were often large. Enamel was a common material used in Art Nouveau jewelry as the period was more about the importance of the design over the materials used to create it. The Art Nouveau period happened before the start of the first world war, when mass manufacturing took over production of many products, including some jewelry.
Persian Turquoise is a highly coveted stone that has been mined for thousands of years in what is now modern-day Iran; even as early as 2100 BC. The most coveted type of Persian Turquoise is a solid bright sky-blue hue that has no shades of green, spots, or veining of any kind. Antique Persian Turquoise was very difficult to source, as it had to be shipped across the ocean, which carried a hefty price tag.
