Introduction: Surprisingly this Board was designed and built much later than Arduino USB for the simple reason that RS232interface still finds wide spread application. Over the years, this Board designed with tight Atmel design specs, has found many application to the extent that it is now used in Semiconductor manufacturing to interface with Factory Automation System. Passsing data collected by tools to the MES (Manufacturing Execution Sysytem). When you work with system requiring high level of reliability,each component used must be necessary as every component adds its probability of failure into the overall MTBF. The uniform pin spacing is one big plus as a common universal PCB can be mounted to provide optoisolated serial interface or galvanically isolated contact.
