Atmos Le Coultre Clock - Caliber 529-519 - 15 Jewel - ~1952 - - Hobbyist/Repair

For Sale ():

Famous Atmos Le Coultre Clock that runs off barometric pressure (when it is running). This clock is not running for more than a few minutes. I do not know what the problem is. It could be the bellows or the pendulum wire. This clock is for sale to a hobbyist or horologist who can assess and repair clocks. This clock is being sold AS-IS.

The clock is marked with serial number 46220. According to Michael P. Murphy’ serial number list, this Atmos “bellows” was likely manufactured in 1952 (see atmosman.com). Also according to this list and the fact that there is no Calibre number on the bottom it is likely an Atmos II or 519. The clock’s cover has two pins which hold it in place on the bottom left and right sides.

My father purchased this Atmos and two others more than 20 years ago at estate sales in the Maryland / DC area. I sold the other two Atmos clocks on over the last few months.

This clock is about 9.25 inches tall, 8.25 inches wide, 6.25 inches deep and weighs about 11 lbs 6 oz. The face is round, about 5.25 inches wide. From my inexpert perspective, the clock seems to be in very good condition, but has discoloration, oxidation or small spots on its face.

THIS CLOCK IS CURRENTLY NOT RUNNING.

After I balanced the clock and released the the pendulum, the clock ran for only a minute or two. I made one attempt to move the flywheel 1 turn and restart. This did not work. I have not polished or cleaned it at all, since I prefer to leave that to someone more expert in these clocks. Please look closely at the pictures. I am selling the clock in as-is condition. If you would like other pictures, or have any questions, let me know. I will attempt to do my best to get the picture or provide an answer.

We are not expert in collectible clocks, so we can’t be certain of this timepiece\'s value or “official” condition. The clock is sold as-is. This clock was acquired by my father who had a collection of clocks that he enjoyed repairing and displaying. Please look at the pictures and ask questions before offerding, we will do our best to answer. We\'ve attempted to describe the clock as accurately as possible. But we are not dealers, so if you note anything that should be added to our description or see something wrong please let us know.... we\'ll add notes to the listing.

From the Jaeger-Le Coultre Web site: “Produced in limited edition series, the Atmos clock lives off air, literally. Inside an airtight capsule, a mixture of gases expands and contracts with every shift in temperature. Thus, the clock mechanism is naturally self-winding, with no need for human intervention. The subtle harmony of tradition and modernity is, without doubt, the secret of the Atmos clock collection\'s timeless personality. The unique design allows you to observe the complexity of its mechanism from all angles. It pays homage to the very first Atmos clock and its avant-garde spirit.”

***** Additional Note on Atmos Status:

One viewer, looking at the third picture, indicated that he believes that the clock is not running \"simply because\" the \"aluminum pallet fork\" was \"bent to death.\" I\'m not going to attempt a repair and can\'t confirm this, but those of you who have some experience can consider this observation.
