Avocent DSR2020 16 port2 User KVM Switch Unlocked & TESTED (PLEASE READ **)

Includes 8 DSRIQ-PS2 KVM cables modules.

Unit provides 1 local & 2 remote IP access to this 16 port switch.

We have locally & remotely connected to these switches, logged in & navigated through their menus.

All 16 KVM ports on each switch have been tested for mouse, Keyboard & video connectivity & activity.

We have also accessed the switches through their serial ports, removed any passwords & reset the switches back to factory defaults.

Each unit includes a power cable & rack mounting brackets.

As with any devices pulled from production environments, these switches may havesome minor dents, scratches orscuff.

** Oracle Java & all web browsers updates have tightened their security settings so much lately, which is preventing these KVM switches from launching a remote, KVM over IP session, which require Java 7.xx & a web browser with TLS 1.0/1.1 enabled.

Newer operating systems & web browsers' updates have TLS 1.0/1.1 disabled. For these reasons, we are selling these switches as Stand Alone KVM switches forlocalaccess, unless you use Java 7.xx andenable TLS 1.0 on your Firefox browser.

We do sell the Avocent Mergepoint & Dell DMP Mergepoint switches at our store that can use either Java or HTM5 (No Java), instead.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question

Answer

Equipment

I have computers at multiple sites. How do I use the Avocent DSR switch to provide access?

The DSR switch can be deployed wherever computers or servers are located. It connects to your network. Your technicians and administrators can access the attached devices directly from their desk.

Can the DSR switch provide access to other devices?

The DS Series has a wide variety of connection adapters. Use the VT100 serial adapter to access routers, DSU or other networking devices.

How do I get access if my network connection to a site is down?

The DSR switch has a port that can be connected to a modem. This provides access to the site when the IP connection is not working. By connecting the router or DSU to the DSR switch, you can diagnose WAN or server problems.

Operation

I use remote control software to manage my remote locations. How is this different?

The DSR switch connects to the keyboard, video and mouse port of the computer. Unlike remote control software, the DS Series products do not require a functioning operating system, network stack, or application to be running to access the computer. By connecting externally, a CTRL-ALT-DEL command can be sent to reboot the computer. During the boot up, the BIOS can be accessed or the boot can be single stepped in order to troubleshoot boot problems. Remote control software cannot give boot level access.

Sometimes I need to cycle power to a device to reset it. How do I cycle power remotely?

The DSR2020 switch has a power control port built into the appliance. By connecting this port to an Avocent SPC power control device, you can remotely check power starts and cycle power. This eliminates having to call someone at the location to explain which power switch they need to cycle.

Performance

Depending on my site, my link speeds can be different. How does the DSR switch handle different speeds?

The DSR switch uses the Avocent Dambrackas Video Compression® (DVC) algorithm. It provides selections to reduce the number of colors, including a gray scale selection, to operate over a variety of link speeds including speeds of a dial modem.
