All parts are brand new, first line, unblemished, and fully machined,and balanced.This short block kit is not assembled. See our other listings for the assembled version of this shortblock. DartBig-MSportsmanblock blue printed to our specs. 2 pc rear main seal, with splayed center main caps. Scat 4340 fully forged crank 4.250stroke, Scat H beam rods with ARP7/16 cap screws, Probe 2618 aircraft race grade pistons 4.560 bore size.SFI damper, and flexplate included. Engine Pro, plasma moly, ductile iron premium ring set. 1/16 1/16 3/16 size. We also include a set of Dart High Performance cam bearings made especially for the Dart block. The block is bored to size with our new Centroid touch probe machine. We then hone the block with our new Sunnen SV10 diamond hone machine. This is also a very advanced machine that hones the block with afinish unlikeconventional machines. We also deck the blocks to your desired specs to a RA finish of around 15 or better. The decking procedure is also done by our Centroid CNC machine. We often find many brand new blocks to have a sloping deck of up to 5 thous. When were finished decking the block it is within one thous. accuracy from end to end. Many machine shops fail to catch this as the machinery they use doe\'s not allow for such accuracy. The final step is to wash the block in our high pressure parts washer. You should always re-wash your block before assembly. This is to assure that you know the block is free of contaminants.

This setup will put you right in the pump gas range when used with a set of heads that have combustion chambers of approx. 115-121 cc. We can also help you select a cam for street rod use, as we have alreadystarted our new Stage \"7\" 555 cidengine program, making nearly 700hp on pump gas, and has excellent street manners. The engine made this power at 5700 rpm. The heads used on this build were a set of Dart 325ccPlatinum Pro 1\'s Our next build will be with the 345cc runner size, and I\'m sure we will top the 700 mark, and still maintain excellent streetability. The 555 engine would most likely last a lifetime in a street rod.

The rotating assembly is neutral balanced, also referred to as internally balanced.

The rotating assembly is balanced on our brand new Hines Legend balancer. This machine is the latest in a series of balancers that is certain to be the best on the market. The new Legend series operates with a Microsoft Windows 7 operating system, and you will recieve a print out ofyour balance job. We balance to less than one gram accuracy. The actual flexplate that you will recieveare installed on the crank when balancing then removed for shipping.

TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE ADVANCED FEATURES FOR THE SCAT 4340 CRANKSHAFT

The damper that is included with this setup is an SFI rated damper. The flexplate is SFI aprovable. Bearings are King HP race grade series. The cam bearings are from Dart. They are special coated bearings, and are very high grade.

We are often asked if the Dart Big-M Sportsman block is able to handle high horse power builds. My answer is that if your building this for street and strip applications, then this block will handle most any buidup you do. 1200hp builds are not uncommon with this block. Durability and longevity with high horsepower builds are not a problem with this block. Nos, twin turbo, blower, high compression buildsare also not aproblem. You will also find this block used in many marine applications.

Pictured below is our Centroid cnc block machine. The machine stands nearly10 feet tall and weighs approx.6,000 lbs. A huge difference of what you see at most machine shops.

Our choice of rods are the Genuine Scat brand Extreme duty 6.385 H-beam rods with ARP cap screws.

NOTE:

We have noticed others using a low grade knockoff brand balancer, and happen to have encountered these in the past. They are substandard in our opinion, not just in appearance, but they are usually out of spec from what we have seen. We don\'t have anything against knockoff products, if they meet our standards, and offer a good value. We think it is great that many of the name brand companies are getting their just reward for what we consider nothing short of offering over priced goods. Take our word on this, you don\'t want a balancer coming off. The timing marks were also poorly marked on some of the balancers we have came across. We know of several competitors using these balancers. The ProStreet brand is far superior to most any we have ever seen. They were once termed as a knockoff product, and have become one the best values on the market, without comprising quality whatsoever.

SFI APROVABLE FLEXPLATE. This flexplate will resist cracking and warpage, leading to imbalance in the engine. One good telltale in identifying a cheap flexplate is the lack of welding on each side where the plate mates to the ring gear. They usually have a pale grey color to them, as they are not coated, and will rust quickly. Ours are welded on both sides, and are approximately 30 thousandths thicker than an oem plate, and are zinc dichromate coated or black powder coated. Never would we use the thinner plate on an assembly such as this. We do offer this assembly with a manual flywheel. See our other listings. In most cases we do have both sizes, 153 and 168 tooth available.

Warning, the flexplate and crank have a dowel pin hole. You must align the flexplate and crank dowel pin hole, but do not use a dowel pin. The flexplate was aligned to the crank when we balanced the assembly, and must be installed the same way.

IT IS OUR OPINION THAT YOU SHOULD NEVER USE AN OEM STYLE FLEXPLATE ON ANY ENGINE. THEY ARE NOT SUFFICIENT TO HANDLE 400+ HP. MANY SELLERS OFFER THE LESS EXPENSIVE THINNER FLEXPLATE, OR WORSE YET THEY DO NOT BALANCE THE ASSEMBLY WITH THE ACTUAL FLEXPLATE THAT IS SHIPPED WITH THE ASSEMBLY. THEY USE ONE PLATE OUT OF A BATCH OF PLATES, ASSUMING THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. WE FOUND NO TWO FLEXPLATES TO BE REMOTELY CLOSE IN THIS RESPECT. THE MASSIVE WELDING THAT\'S ON THESE PLATES AROUND THE RING GEAR ON BOTH SIDES, AND THE ATTACHING OF THE WEIGHT IS VERY INCONSISTENT AS FAR AS BALANCING IS CONCERNED. SO WE DO IN FACT SEND THE ACTUAL PLATE USED WHEN BALANCING AND SERIAL NUMBER IT TO MATCH THE REST OF THE ASSEMBLY.
