ca. late 1970sChrome-coated, full color Birmingham, Alabama postcard of the legendary OLD PLANTATION BARBECUE restaurant which was located on First Avenue North in Titusville, an historically black neighborhood. And yet, even after the Civil Rights movement of the mid 1960s was long over in Birmingham, the restaurant insisted on continuing the use of its famed catch-phrase, done in stereotypical black dialect:

On the front of the building was a huge sign saying "Yas Suh! It's Cooked in De Pit!"

I have to say that I LOVED driving by that restaurant - NOT to look at the embarrassing and dated sign but because of the wonderfulBBQ aroma that surrounded the place!

This postcard is postally unused and in FINE condition. The signs (the catch-phrase sign as well as the business name "Old Plantation Barbecue")finally disappeared a few years ago so this is a real relic of Birmingham's past.

(the fine print ... [sigh] ... but please read :-)
