The Buddha seated in dhyanasanaon a base supported by three (damaged) elephants among the remains of a dentil frieze, the Buddha with the bare soles of his feet upturned, his hands raised before his chest in the gesture of Dharmachakra, wearing asanghatidraped across his left shoulder, his face in a meditative expression, backed by a round nimbus.
This depiction refers to the miracle of Sravasti where Buddha performed several miracles to demonstrate his superiority over the Kasyapas, the Buddhas of the past. During the first miracle, Buddha levitated in the air, emitting flames from his shoulders and water from his feet. Then, during the second and decisive miracle, the two serpent Naga Kings, Nanda and Upananda, created a seat for the Buddha. The Sanskrit word naga denotes both serpent and elephant, allowing the sculptor to let the seat be carried by elephants as elephant-nagas, evoking the serpent kings Nanda and Upananda. In other depictions of this same miracle the seat is carried by also 3 elephants or 1 lion flanked by 2 elephants.

The statue has a weight of 2465 gram and is 29 centimeters high. Condition as pictured,repair of a clean cut (see picture 6) and extensive superficial and deeper wear and loss of material, clearly visible in the pictures, especially extensive damage to the base.
