• An antique mid Victorian period c1862 SUPERIOR QUALITY silver plate cornet 16261 by J.HIGHAM 127 Strangeways Manchester - Exhibition Prize Medal Awarded London 1862 & Dublin 1865. By 1863, their address was 2 Victoria Terrace, Victoria St.. The cornet, excluding mouthpiece has a total length of 12.75 in ( 324 mm) with a bell diameter of 4.85 in (123 mm). The mouthpiece is impressed J.HIGHAM Ltd MAKERS. Cosmetically, the instrument is in very good condition with no wear to the plate ( even to the tops of the valve buttons) with just one small soldered repair, a shallow indentation and a few minor marks etc....commensurate with its age, use and history. It appears to have been well looked after over the years and comes with a silver plated spring loaded sheet music holder and LEVITAS mute by BESSON & Co Brevetes. Mechanically, all parts function normally and it appears to make a great sound, although I am no expert. The trumpet comes in its original thick brown leather and purple corded velvet lined case in fair condition for its age with some damage..
