c1905 NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN VILLIAGE BLUE & GRAY SALT GLAZE STONEWARE PITCHER
Price: US $315.00
Outstanding and quite rare, ca1905, American Blue & Gray Salt Glazed Stoneware Native American Indian subject Relief Pitcher believed to have been manufactured by the Weir Pottery Company of Monmouth, Illinois.

This fantastic blue and gray Stoneware Pitcher measures approx. 8” tall and 6” in diameter at the base. The raised, cobalt blue decorated scene depicts an elaborate Indian Village Scene with teepees, ceremonial dance and full figured Indian brave with rifle. The handle features the molded head of an Indian Chief wearing an eagle feather headdress. While this is not a Chief Sleepy Eye / Sleepy Eye Milling Company Flour Premium, it is similar in form and design and we were able to uncover one other example that was issued as a premium around 1905 by the Belknap Hardware & Manufacturing Co. of Louisville, Kentucky. We are unsure of just which American Pottery Company manufactured this beautiful Pitcher but the Weir Pottery Company or the Western Stoneware Company are the most likely candidates.

This wonderful, turn of the 20th century Native American Indian Subject Cylinder Salt Glaze Stoneware Pitcher is in good to very good condition. The surface is clean and crisp and well preserved with no staining or discoloration. The surface molding is strong and the Pitcher is very attractive. There are, however, two tiny chips at the spout and 3 small chips at the base as well as a tight and stable spider crack in the bottom. Please see the scans below for a good indication of the form and condition of this Beautiful American Indian motif Salt Glaze Pitcher.

Again we must stress that this is NOT a later reproduction, reissue or counterfeit example but an original, ca1905 Native American Indian motif, Blue & Gray Salt Glazed Stoneware Pitcher and a fantastic addition to any collection!!
