This listing is for a Turkish pre WWII hallmarked and hinged humidor box. The box measures8 by 4 1/2 by 1 1/2 inches or 20 by 11.5 by 4 cm. The box weighs 480 grams or 15.4 troy ounces.
The box is quite beautiful. The top is convex and is done in heavy repose or bas relief work of roses. The space between these raised roses is covered in a pattern of hand engraved dots or stipple work. The inside of the box is lined with rosewood.The top of the box has a hinge along the back.
The bottom of the box has two stamped hallmarks. A "900" mark for the silver grade. This 900 mark was discontinued in 1939 and was used by the Turkish Republic between 1923 and 1939. After 1939 the Turkish republic used a different hallmark system. The second mark is an unidentified makers mark.The box has also been tested and is guaranteed to be 900 silver. Note: On the bottom of the box is a later presentation light engraved into the bottom of the box (this could be polished out if one wanted to). It reads "With Compliments of Turkiye Petrolleri A.O.".
The box is in very good condition throughout. The cover is nice and tight insuring freshness to the tobacco. Please see the photographs for more on the look and condition of this fine silver box, as they are an important part of the description.
