ca1877 \" CREEDMOOR BANK \" CAST IRON MECHANICAL BANK By J. E. STEVENS GREAT PAINT
Price: US $305.00
Wonderful and rare, original, 1877 Cast Iron Mechanical Bank by J & E. Stevens titled the \"Creedmoor Bank\" with exceptionally well preserved, original surface paint. This outstanding, original Cast Iron Mechanical Bank measures approx. 6 5/8\" tall and 9 3/4\" x 2 3/4\" at the base. The Creedmoor Bank was patented in 1877 by J. H. Bowen and manufactured by J & E. Stevens for a number of years thereafter. It was one of Stevens most popular Mechanical Banks as it is a very attractive bank with excellent action and subject matter. Though certainly not the rarest of Cast Iron Mechanical Banks, the Creedmoor Bank is popular with collectors today for the same reasons that it was popular with children and adults alike when it was originally marketed.

The Bank features the figure of a Rifleman (possibly a New York State Militiaman) pointing a rifle at a target painted on the side of a tree trunk. To operate, the odd shaped piece on the top of the gun barrel is pressed back until it snaps into position. This \"loading\" of the mechanism also causes the head of shooter to lower into a position that makes it appear he is taking aim at the target. A coin is placed on top of the barrel just in front of the odd shaped piece. When the right foot of the Rifleman is pressed down he fires the gun and the coin shoots forward through a slot in the center of the target ringing a bell inside the trunk. The coin is deposited inside the castle tower and the head of the Rifleman falls backwards. The mechanism here is in excellent working condition.

The Bank is very finely cast and retains approx. 90% amount of its original surface paint. On this example the figure wears black shoes, red trousers, dark blue coat, and gray cape. He has a red belt with yellow buckle and a dark blue hat with a red band. His hands and face are flesh color and his hair, eyebrows, eyes, and moustache are black. The gun is black as is the coin-firing piece. The base is dark green. Two raised irregular oval brown sections are on the base. The one by the left foot has the name \"Creedmoor Bank\" and \"Pat. Nov. 6, 1877\" cast therein. The other has \"Bowen’s Series\". The large tree stump is brown with a lighter brown top.

This outstanding, original \"Creedmoor” Mechanical Bank is in very good to excellent condition with no cracks, chips, breaks, repairs or damage of any kind. The Bank retains approx. 90% of its original surface paint and the paint is 100% original - the Bank has never been restored, repainted, touched up or altered in any way. . Please see the numerous scans below for a good indication of the condition of the paint. The mechanism is strong and tight and the Bank retains its original trap cover.
