ca1900 VICTOR RECORD PLAYER CHROMOLITHOGRAPH ON CANVAS ADVERTISING SIGN
Price: US $4150.00
Exceptionally rare and stunningly beautiful, ca1900 Victor Phonograph \"Oilette\" style Chromolithograph on canvas Advertising Sign featuring the Victor Dog Nipper and titled “His Master’s Voice”.

This outstanding and original Victor Phonograph Advertising measures approx. 34” by 27 1/2” including its original gesso surface, wood frame.

This Classic American Advertising Image features the dog Nipper seated in front of an early Victor Phonograph. The Image is signed in the plate by the artist Francis Barraud and the Sign is one of the earliest to depict this classic American Advertising image.

The Sign has the \"look\" of an oil painting - printed on the same type of canvas that was used by artists for oil paintings in the late 19th century. This beautiful Advertising Sign appears, at even close inspection, to be a fine oil painting but is in fact an exceptionally well executed, Chromolithograph on Canvas. The format and the craftsmanship is very similar to the well known Abraham Lincoln Chromolithograph on Canvas Portrait that was issued as an Advertising Sign by the Illinois Watch Company in the early 20th century. The scans below do not do justice to the beauty and quality of this outstanding Sign and we guarantee that the winning buyer will be blown away by the Sign when viewed in hand.

The chromolithography is simply fantastic, deep and rich and stunningly beautiful. This image is the Victor Talking Machine advertisement that has become an American Classic and the Sign offered here is arguably the VERY best and rarest example of that Image.

This stunningly beautiful, Chromolithograph Sign was manufactured to resemble an oil painting (the process is sometimes called \"oilette\") and the look is a very effective one. This type of Chromolithography used heavy, oil-based inks that were \"layered up\" to create a texture, richness and feel of an oil painting. The untrained eye could be easily fooled by this printing technique, into thinking that they are viewing an actual oil painting on canvas even though it is actually a Chromolithograph on a canvas stock.

This very rare and very beautiful, ca1900 Chromolithograph Advertising Sign on Canvas is in very good condition - clean and crisp and beautiful with some age appropriate surface Craquelure. The image is dark and bold and the colors rich and warm. The artists signature is difficult to make out due to the very dark color of the rich oil inks used to print the lithograph but the printed signature is present at the lower right hand corner. There is a thin surface scratch at the center of the bottom edge of the canvas - this looks much worse in the scans below than it does when the Sign is viewed in hand. The original frame is in very good condition with some surface wear. Overall this wonderful Advertising Sign is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully. We had the Sign cleaned by a professional oil painting restorer - she saw no indication that the Sign had ever been repaired or restored and there is no in-painting that she could see.

We have found only one recent sale record for an example of this rare and wonderful Advertising Sign - an example in significantly lesser condition recently sold for over $1400 with buyer’s premium!!
