CANON VT MODEL CAMERA w/ LEATHER CARRYING CASE FROM 1956-1957
Price: US $133.50
I must begin by stating that I am nowhere close to being a camera aficionado. My knowledge of this area is limited to the occasional factoid my dad would offer when I was a teenager, and a few crash-course sessions about the technical features and historical significance of the devices -- courtesy of my buddy Mark.
That being said, the following sale offers a piece of my late father\'s vast vintage camera collection. He was a genuine enthusiast -- so much so that he and his good friend Mark spent many of their weekends attending camera shows here in the New England area, hoping that their next gem of a living room display piece was just a day-breaking drive away. When dad passed away eleven years ago, all of his family members and friends agreed that he would want his cameras to end up in the possession of someone who could truly appreciate their physical beauty, technical capabilities and historical lineage. I have personally taken on the task of listing these classic pieces on .
This particular sale is for a Canon VT model camera, which originated around 1956-1957. Research has taught us that this camera proved to be a significant product for the Canon corporation -- becoming the company’s most successful 35mm product.Canon kept the Leica screw mount on the VT, and little else. They changed the film advance from a top-mounted knob to a bottom-mounted trigger. The tripod socket was moved to mount a trigger wind grip. They added a swing-open back making the camera easier to load than previous bottom loading Canons. The VT used a cloth shutter curtain, and shutter speeds were from 1s to 1/1000, plus T and B. Available Canon lenses ranged from 25mm to 800mm, and offered lenses as fast as f/1.2. Flash sync is available for FP, M, and X.One of its best features was a 3-position viewfinder with rotating prisms, which could be set to 35mm, 50mm and RF. In the RF setting, accessory shoe-mounted viewfinders with automatic parallax correction would be used.
The item has not been tested with film, so no promises can be made that a functional camera is being offered here. As far as damage is concerned, it\'s physical condition can best be described as \"very good.\" On the camera itself, there are a few areas of small scratches or stubborn dirt along the metal frame and across the front canvas section.
The leather carrying case is also in very good condition. Mild wear is evident along the borders of both the top and bottom sections, and there are some worn spots scattered about the interior as well. While still attached, the strap shows considerable wear, but does not seem to be in danger of breaking.
Whether you plan on using this camera for photographic purposes, or simply as an antique to display in your favorite room, several decades worth of photo-snapping history is -- with hope -- about to join the collection of a fellow camera connoisseur!
